Calm control rooms for live television

Our Team

The people who run your production

Four specialists cover switching, engineering, planning and graphics. You will usually speak to the same few people from first enquiry to the end of the show.

Team

Each of us has a defined part in a production, so nobody is guessing who decides what. Here is who does which job and how to reach the right person.

  • Helen Marsh

    Technical Director

Helen has switched live shows for television and streaming for over fifteen years. She leads our gallery crews on every production.

  • Daniel Pritchard, Broadcast Engineer

    Daniel Pritchard

    Broadcast Engineer

Daniel designs signal paths and keeps our control room equipment dependable. He handles every fit-out from survey to handover.

  • Priya Nair

    Production Manager

Priya plans schedules, crews and budgets for our events. She is the first point of contact for new enquiries.

  • Tom Whitcombe, Graphics and Replay Operator

    Tom Whitcombe

    Graphics and Replay Operator

Tom runs on-screen graphics and replay clips during live shows. He previously worked on outside broadcasts for regional television.

How we work

How the team shares a production

Live shows go well when roles are clear before the first camera is switched on. We divide the work into planning, engineering and operation, and keep each of them with a named person.

Planning and contact

Priya Nair takes new enquiries and builds the schedule, crew list and budget. She asks about the venue, the running order and the outputs you want, then writes the quotation. During the lead-up she is the person to call with changes. Keeping this in one place means you do not repeat yourself to several people, and the crew gets one clear set of instructions.

Engineering and kit

Daniel Pritchard designs the signal paths and checks that every piece of equipment is dependable before it leaves Dorchester. For a fit-out he surveys the room, specifies the monitor wall, intercom and routing, and sees the work through to handover. On event days he is responsible for line checks, so faults are found during setup rather than on air.

On air operation

Helen Marsh leads the gallery as technical director and calls the cuts with the director. Tom Whitcombe runs graphics and replay beside her, working from the prepared names and clips. Both take part in the pre-show run-through, so cues are familiar and the programme feed stays calm if the show changes.
